Stena Recycling Norway and Beyonder have entered a circular partnership
Stena Recycling and Beyonder have entered a circular partnership agreement for battery production waste from Beyonder`s research and pilot plant in Sandnes, Norway. The production waste will be managed at Stena Recycling`s new battery recycling facility in Halmstad, Sweden. The goal is to create a sustainable battery value chain that lays the foundation for Beyonder to produce the next generation of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient battery cells.
“Our shared goal is to reduce the environmental impact of all operations. Beyonder aims to produce the next generation of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient battery cells with sustainable materials in cell design. We look forward to this circular partnership and support their commitment to sustainability throughout the value chain” says Ragnhild Borchgrevink, Managing Director of Stena Recycling AS.
Under the agreement, Stena Recycling will assist Beyonder in establishing proper handling procedures for relevant production waste. Stena Recycling`s advanced recycling process in Halmstad, Sweden, enables the recovery of materials from battery cells to be used in the production of new batteries with a high recycling rate.
Thomas Bergan, EVP Operation at Beyonder, comments on the collaboration:
Beyonder`s research and pilot plant has begun its journey and is currently producing cells from an established line. The pilot phase is ongoing in 2024-25 and is seen as a period where both parties can grow significantly together. The partnership extends to 2027 with an automatic two-year extension.
