Press release: BEYONDER AND SIEMENS PARTNER TO PRODUCE NEXT GENERATION GREEN BATTERY CELLS
Beyonder and Siemens have signed an agreement with the purpose of jointly enhance the basis for the first competitive and sustainable battery cell production in Norway.
Siemens will among others support Beyonder to build a holistic “digital twin” with advanced virtual simulation capabilities to enable rapid development of new battery cell technology solutions and a low-cost battery cell production.
The parties will explore the possibility of joint development of Beyonder’s battery products and Siemens ́ modules for energy storage and smart grid solutions, including participation in joint research and development projects and adding new features to Beyonder’s products with Siemens expertise in control- and electrical infrastructure for energy storage systems.
Today, Beyonder and Siemens announce that they will start collaborating to enable low cost, green battery cell supply from Norway.
Beyonder has developed the world ́s first true sustainable energy storage solution utilising activated carbon from forest residue (sawdust) in the battery cells. With its unique and non- flammable technology, Beyonder will produce battery cells with high power and fast charge (1-2 min) for industrial applications to be used in electricity grids, supporting emissions-free solutions at airports, in ports, heavy transport and charge stations.
Siemens is an industrial developer and system integrator with extensive experience in providing services, products and technologies for industrial manufacturing and energy projects. The recent years Siemens has supported the birth of several battery cell factories and gained valuable insights in battery production. Utilizing their comprehensive Automation and Digitalization portfolio this experience has resulted in smart and holistic solutions specifically developed for battery cell production which makes them an interesting partner for new battery producers.
“We are committed to support the fast-growing battery industry towards an accelerated transition to a net zero carbon emission economy. Beyonder’s innovative battery cell technology and business ideas in collaboration with Siemens industrial, energy and digital capabilities can be leveraged for a sustainable and cost-efficient production. Based on Norway’s low cost and 100% renewable energy supply this is indeed a green production of clean battery cells” says Frank Braathen, Managing Director of Siemens Digital Industries, Norway.
The two companies will collaborate with a focus on:
Through digital and simulation tools develop and verify Beyonder’s proven and emerging battery cell technologies to reduce time to market.
Optimize production quality and material- and energy flows by digitalize and integrate the entire battery cell production value chain to secure a sustainable competitive advantage
Explore how Siemens control- and electrical infrastructure competence for energy storage systems and grid stabilization solutions may provide added value to Beyonder’s “got to market” products and applications.
“Beyonder is exited to team up with Siemens in our quest to develop and supply truly green batteries to the market at competitive cost. Siemens deep expertise and proven track-record in providing targeted scaling services for technology centric solutions are of high importance to achieve our ambitious targets”, says Svein Kvernstuen, CEO and Founder of Beyonder.
